Design Projects - Hospital Radio artwork

I first got involved with Hospital Radio back in 1985 when I was a volunteer request collector with Radio HBS in Glasgow. On moving to Dundee I joined Radio Tayside (later to become Hospital Radio Tayside and then BRIDGEfm Hospital Radio). During this time I was involved in creating many documents, leaflets and logos starting in 1992 with the 40th anniversary logo. As you can see the number of variants of each logo has grown as I have been able to adapt it for may different uses.

A minor variation on an already created logo. This was used 1992.

A redesigned logo following move to new premises. The record player is still included from the original artwork, and the logo is based around the initials 'RT'.

The full logo was designed in mono and colour, with the station name available on its own or simply as the 'RT' initials. A special Christmas version was also created. At this time most of the work was for print use only and therefore mainly mono.

Hospital Radio Tayside

Hospital Radio Tayside logo 1999-2001

Another new logo following another move to new premises and a minor name change.

This logo still features the original record player and more of the logos were designed in colour for inkjet printing and website use.

As well as 'flat' versions of the logo 'shadowed' versions were created as well. Following on from the Radio Tayside logos abbreviated initial logos were created along with special Christmas and Newsletter versions.

The 'arrow' design was also echoed in a smaller version containing the HRT initials alongside the NAHBO "Percy" logo of a patient in bed listening to a rather oversized radio!

BRIDGEfm Hospital Radio

ODEON Dundee logo

Brand-new logo collection following the merger of two local hospital radio stations - Hospital Radio Tayside and Radio Liff.

Sadly the record player didn't survive the merger as a break from the past was requested for this design.

This time I tried to keep the logo as simple and eye-catching as possible whilst still lending itself to mono and coloured variants, abbreviated versions, adapted versions and those with straplines added.

New additions this time included rectangular window stickers, website graphics, small collecting can 'thanks' stickers and desktop wallpaper / mouse mat backgrounds.

Design Projects - Hospital Radio programme and related artwork

The first Hospital Radio programme I presented was on Saturday 19 April 1986 and I continued to present live programmes until 1992. From 1999 I started recording programmes for Hospital Radio stations, the first of which was The Music Box. These programmes have been supplied to over 30 Hospital Radio stations across the UK. The Music Box: Mirror Music programmes were recorded specifically for Hospital Radio Tayside and have yet to be re-recorded and made more widely available. The BRIDGEfm Music Mix, as you may gather by the name, is exclusive to BRIDGEfm Hospital Radio.
